Bargad in Hindi

Bargad as a story reflects on Indian culture of compassion and respect for all. Growing up in India we have seen Bargad everywhere. It has been a staple of everywhere we go. Be it outside of a temple or as a center of a small town around which traffic flows.

Primary objective of this book is to reach out to our son Arya and kids alike. Arya is fond of story books, be it bed time, playtime; anytime is story time for him.
Even though our target audience is Kids, This book has something for everyone.
For instance Bargad, the banyan tree. While growing up in India we see it everywhere be it outside of temple, a bus stop or a public square. It's always on your face but still barely noticeable. It generates that warm and cozy feeling in you, that is sitting in our non-verbal aspect of emotion and memories of India. So it became our obvious choice to revolve our story around Bargad. While putting illustrations together our attempt has been to exercise on that non-verbal cue and sketch it out. Backdrop of village or context of progression definetly speaks home.
Language used in this book is simple and something that you would like to imply in your everyday life like "Bargad Seena tane, badal chume, dharti pe sthir khada tha".
In this book we used authentic Indian names like Vikasnagar for town and Bargad the actual hindi name for Banyan tree. It would have been very simple to use Westernized name to appeal to kids growing up here, but that would be lost opportunity. Familiarity with Indian names and being able to use them is equally important. It would only be a proxy of culture if its sacrificed for ease. This story will also spark conversation with parents about meaning and significance of some concepts that are used in subtle fashion. Bargad will go beyond traditional moral for a story.
Our Goal:
Our goal is to speak to subtlety of Indian culture in as many stories as possible and bring them one story at a time. As Arya, grows we hope to mature our content too.  Currently we have 5 project in flight with mixture of fun, funny and jovial subjects.
Struggle is always to reach out to wider audience and put ourselves out there. We hope to stay engaged parents and retain that status as we share our joy and production with everyone.
Currently we are focussed on getting print version of this book available soon. Printed version will have both Hindi script and Hind scripted in English.
And we hope to rework this whole book in English and cater to non-hindi speaking audience.
